В 2018 году the European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People (EWGSOP) представила обновленные данные по саркопении (EWGSOP2). The European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN) и the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO) выступилb с инициативой по достижению экспертного консенсуса по определению и диагностическим критериям саркопенического ожирения.
