Indicators of mental disorders of army conscripts of the Armed Forces and youth of the Republic of Belarus (2009–2018)

Abstract

We conducted a selective statistical analysis of medical reports on the health status of personnel in form 3/MED of military units, in which at least 80% of the total number of military personnel recruited by the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus for 10 years (2009–2018) served. The average annual level of the general incidence of conscripts with mental disorders amounted to (30.1 ± 1.8) ‰, the primary incidence (16.1 ± 1.2) ‰, the need for follow-up (5.1 ± 0.6) ‰, hospitalization (13.8 ± 0.5) ‰, days of labor loss (283 ± 11) ‰, dismissing (5.38 ± 0.40) ‰. Polynomial trends with different determination coefficients showed tendency to decrease in the last observation period in almost all types of medical and statistical morbidity. The need for follow-up showed a trend of increasing data. The constructed assessment of the military-epidemiological significance of mental disorders for conscripts with high proportions included neurotic, stress-related, and somatoform disorders (group 5, F40 – F48 according to ICD-10) and personality and behavior disorders in adulthood (7th group, F60 – F69), mood disorders (affective disorders) (4th group, F30 – F39), unspecified mental disorders (11th group, F99). It can be assumed that the quality of the draft contingent is important in the development of the incidence of mental disorders in conscripts of the Republic of Belarus, and military-professional factors are not leading and may act as conditions for development of mental disorders.
