The relationship between clinical symptoms of schizophrenia and acute drug-induced extrapyramidal disorders

Abstract

Studies are devoted to the clinical and biological phenomenology of acute drug-induced extrapyramidal disorders in schizophrenia. The article presents the results of studies of the association of clinical symptoms of schizophrenia with acute parkinsonism and akathisia, which resulted from the administration of standardized antipsychotic therapy to patients. It has been found that drug-induced akathisia is more reliably associated with such common psychopathological symptoms as anxiety, depression, affective lability, impaired control impairment, and active social exclusion. Drug-induced Parkinsonism revealed a relationship with negative symptoms, as well as motor retardation and violent impairment.
