About the seasonality of burns

Abstract

According to the results of monthly distribution of hospitalized for two years 1699 patients with burns it was found that from may to August, their share increased 1.5–2.0 times, as compared to the calendar seasons (winter, spring, autumn), 2.1–2.8 times due to more frequent contacts with year-round current traumatic agents (hot liquids, flames, hot solid objects, electric current), and also as a result of increased sunlight exposure to skin to and the emergence of aggressive chemical compounds of plant origin. Despite the increase of the number of victims in may-August, among them the proportion of people with extensive burns (21 % and more) was significantly lower (8.6 %) than in winter (24.4 %) and autumn (17.0 %), and with the destruction of tissues of IIIB and IV degrees decreased, respectively, from 10.0–11.0 % to 7.3 % and from 19.7–25.8 % to 13.4 %, which was accompanied by a decrease in the frequency of bacterial complications such as pneumonia, septicemia, bacteriuria.
